Joe Regalado and Sofia Regalado

Owners, Jarco Companies

Bio

Joe and Sofia Regalado are the owners of Jarco Companies, a family of businesses prevalent in the mining and manufacturing industries that work with residential and commercial clients. As natural entrepreneurs, Joe and Sofia knew they wanted to build a company in Texas that helped their communities. But their journey from humble beginnings to a successful business venture wasn’t without its challenges. Throughout their story, Joe and Sofia leaned on each other in a unique partnership as both spouses and business partners and ultimately—with a little help from Broadway Bank—were able to turn their hardships into opportunities.

Both originally from Mexico, Joe and Sofia moved to the United States with their families when they were young children. Sofia moved to Texas at age 11 and worked inside a restaurant as a teen. Joe also moved to Texas at a young age, and when he turned 14, he worked in a local garage with his father and at a restaurant with his mother. It wasn’t until Joe and Sofia were young adults that fate stepped in, and they met in the restaurant where Sofia was a waitress. Their connection was instant and from there, their story of love and entrepreneurship began.

Karie Spell, RN

CEO of Signature Health Services

Bio

I’m a small-town girl from Mont Belvieu, Texas, who married her wonderful husband in 1993 while attending Lee College. Graduating with an associate’s degree in nursing in 1994 before finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Texas Tech. I embarked in Cardiac nursing in Beaumont after graduation.

The birth of our first son, Christopher, in November 1994, guided my career towards a more family-friendly platform, and I found my passion in home health care. As a result, my career and learning flourished in this nursing platform. I quickly discovered my leadership abilities, leading to promotions and new opportunities.

In 1995, we were blessed with our second son, Nicholas, and during this time, I teamed up with my parents to establish our very own home health organization in our hometown. My vision was to make quality home health care accessible to all patients, bringing innovative healthcare delivery and healing home. I was determined to improve the standardization, and professionalism to this nursing platform, creating a sought after distinguished speciality.

Signature has grown to employee over 100 current staff members providing skilled nursing and therapy services to thousands of patients annually. We strive daily to maintain the coveted 5 STAR rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services for outstanding quality service and patient satisfaction. Our rating is a testament to the great team I have the privilege of leading on a daily basis.

I love what I do and renew my commitment daily to be the best leader and example of what can happen when you mobilize a vision, find and utilize true grit, and acknowledge and give thanks to God’s grace and blessings. You see I graduated with a degree in Nursing and became an RN, I wasn’t a business major and didn’t graduate with a MBA. I simply made a commitment to those entrusted in my care and under my leadership to dig in and learn how to run a company and be the best home health business and employer to my people.

My formula was this, I read and practiced concepts. I incorporated processes, I hired people with heart that were committed to the greater good. I found great mentors and implemented their techniques, I affiliated myself with the best colleagues to learn more until there wasn’t room for improvement. Guess what? I’m still working on it!

I’ve made great mistakes, I’ve learned that failure is JUST a teacher. It teaches you, there’s no limit to the amount of do overs you get. It teaches you what your limits are and then how to push through them to become the best version yourself.

I’ve learned not to settle for the status quo but be brave enough to scrap it, take the risk of reinventing yourself to become the best you can be because other people need your example, to get out of their own rut.

My profession has been instrumental in shaping me into the person I am, but my greatest
accomplishments are those of raising two wonderful sons who now have beautiful families of their own.

With joys in life, there’s also tragedy. Unfortunately, I faced the sudden loss of my husband of 25 years in 2018. This terrible loss taught me how precious life and moments are and bolstered my faith in Christ. The strength I gained from these circumstances gave me courage and confidence to be the leader I am today and gave me greater discernment and compassion for people and the human condition, called life.

My best and happiest moments are when I get to spend time with my granddaughter, my sons, their families and the sweetest man and his family God brought into my life to give me another chance to love and be loved, and I’m so thankful for these blessings.

I love to make things better than when I found them. Coaching people and problem solving to achieve better health through nutrition and lifestyle have become passions of mine. I love to laugh! I love to travel, experiencing the beauty of God’s majesty in the places we go and the people we meet.

The legacy I hope I’m achieving is one of genuineness, generosity and goodness. I hope when I leave this earthly home, people can say I made a positive impact whether it was a brief encounter or longtime relationship. I hope people remember my smile, my heart and the time we spent together and some how forget my shortcomings, as there are many.

I’ve learned not to focus on each individual frame of a life but instead to look at the whole canvas, to really take it in. It’s there, where the most beauty and peace reside and the flaws seem to just disappear. I still live in the home where we raised our boys and I do love my small town. I love small business and supporting my local businesses and communities. I love my great state and I’m blessed to be Texan.

God has truly blessed our efforts and afforded us many opportunities through these beautiful years. Families, physicians, hospitals and communities still trust us to care for their loved ones and patients. With 28 years and counting we are doing just that in the greater Houston and surrounding counties. I love my Signature and the team we’ve built and the cultural we’ve created. It’s truly a privilege to get to do this everyday.
